Built on preparation

Framheim was the base on the Ross Ice Shelf where Roald Amundsen’s team planned the 1911 South Pole expedition. We took the name because that is how we want to invest.

At the Bay of Whales, Amundsen’s team built their base and named it Framheim, the home of their ship, the Fram. Before winter they laid supply depots along the planned route. Through the polar winter they rebuilt sledges, recut clothing, calibrated rations and trained with their dogs.

When the party set out, they knew where their supplies were, how long they would last and what the team could carry. They covered their planned distance each day and reached the Pole with reserves intact.

The expedition was planned in detail in the hut, long before it was tested on the ice.

Why the name

Preparation, discipline, endurance

The companies we back keep power grids, rail, water, ports and defence infrastructure running, and they carry out the inspections that keep them safe. We try to bring the expedition’s three disciplines to every investment. We screen a market before we approach a company, we write and test the value creation plan before we commit capital, and we stay active owners until the plan is delivered.
